Ep 17 - No One Is Going to Save You

In this raw and unedited episode, my Co-Producer, Mike Loyd, joins the show to rant with me for a bit. One thing we've both learned in our entrepreneurial journeys is that "no one is going to save you." Mike and I share how we came to this conclusion, and how we're using it to fuel our success. As always thanks for sharing your time with us and I hope you enjoy the show.

Confessions of a Native Son - Ep.13 "Always Faithful"

In this episode, I open up about my first year in the Marine Corps, and the challenges I faced as a young black officer. I share details about my performance, living and working in what felt like an all-white world, and the humiliation I felt.

This was the hardest episode I've recorded yet. Sharing this aspect of my life brought back a lot of negative memories and feelings that I've tried to push past. My hope is that by opening and sharing my experience, I'm able to foster an open dialogue about race and culture in the military. As always, thanks for sharing your time with me and I hope you enjoy the show.

Confessions of a Native Son - Ep.12 "Taking the Big Leap"

In this episode, I discuss Author Gay Hendrick's book, "The Big Leap: Conquer Your Hidden Fear and Take Life to the Next Level." I came across the book last year, thanks to my business Coach Bill Watkins, from the Lion's Pride, and it's has been instrumental in my personal & professional growth. I'm currently going through the book for the fourth time, as I continue to take my own Big Leaps with IRONBOUND Boxing and Dope Coffee. The book made me self-aware of my upper-limit problem, the self-doubt, self-sabotage, and insecurity that emerges every time I dare to step into my greatness. I open up about my personal limiting beliefs, the Stories I tell myself, and the other mental demons I battle on a daily basis. My hope is that opening up about my struggles, you're able to find some self-awareness in your own life. As always, thanks again for sharing your time with me and I hope you enjoy the show.

Confessions of a Native Son - Ep.11 "Owning Your Own Content"

The following is another legacy Episode, recorded prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic, where I interviewed Lance John & Mekeisa brown from the Gifted Sounds Network, an American podcasting creation, production, and distribution network based in Brooklyn, New York. Lance and his team are curating diverse talent from all across the country, with the intent of building a larger than life podcasting platform for people of color. I first met Lance and his team after appearing on the "Super Upper Punch" podcast with Rich Rodriguez. I had an itch for starting this podcast and I viewed my chance encounter with Lance as the universe giving me a sign. Over the course of a few months, we discussed the idea of launching "Confessions of a Native Son," until finally one day, I decided to pull the trigger and host the show on the Gifted Sounds Network. Today's show marks episode 11, of what once just an idea. In this episode, we discuss how Lance and Mekeisa founded Gifted Sounds, the importance of protecting one's intellectual property, and the black podcaster landscape. As always, thanks again for sharing your time with me and I hope you enjoy the show.

Confessions of a Native Son - Ep.10 "Boxing is Wellness"

In this episode, I discuss why" boxing is wellness" and how my brand, IRONBOUND Boxing, is using our training methods to improve the health & wellness of people of color. Due to the abundance of chronic health issues such as diabetes, obesity, and other ailments, within communities of color, we are disproportionality affected by COVID-19. With the challenges of social distancing, PTSD from months of quarantine, and economic hardships, As a nation, we need to come up with creative solutions to help mitigate death from COVID-19 and future respiratory viruses. My hope is that by discussing IRONBOUND Boxing's approach to addressing these issues, we can manifest them into existent. As always, thank you for sharing your time with me and I hope you enjoy the show.

Confessions of a Native Son - Ep.9 "Rethinking Traditional Education"

In this episode, I challenge the myth of higher education and its role in educating young men & women of color. I discuss the limits of our current educational system, the ROI on a college degree in today's economy, and where I see the future of educated headed. This episode was recorded prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic, whose aftermath will raise more questions on the legitimacy of our current educational system. With the economy in shambles, unemployment rising, and schools turning to online education, I doubt our understanding of traditional education will ever be the same. As always, thanks again for sharing your time with me and I hope you enjoy the show.
