You did it! You made it through part one, which was long af. In this second half of the #HistoricalNightcap we start out with a drunk and jaunty discussion on faith and religion, before diving into this weeks diary entries focusing on our Ann(e)s and their unfortunate drama. Our Patron Saint of Thirst is in the throws of torment, though never confused about her desire for Anne Lister. It’s ridiculous, adorable, and oh so lovely.
Hey ho! So we’ve actually managed to record an episode that exceeds five hours. Good lord, welp, instead of cutting out any of our drunk and jaunty rambles, we split this #HistoricalNightcap offering into two parts. In this first half, we revisit episode 5 of Gentleman Jack “Let’s Have Another Look at Your Past Perfect” once more, but this time with the invaluable insight of show creator Sally Wainwright. Immediately afterwards, in response to a few listener requests, we do a deep dive into Angela Steidele’s book ‘Gentleman Jack: A biography of Anne Lister, Regency Landowner, Seducer and Secret Diarist’, where we discuss some of her controversial assertions and surprising revelations.
The best day ever turns into literally the WORST DAY EVER, and boy do we suffer. In this episode of #GentlemanJackCrack we are inundated with sad feels as our ladies have their biggest fight to date. Ann is visited by a Miss Parkhill who’s partial to het ghost stories and clergymen, Eliza is still sneaking around Crow Nest, and we finally meet the horrid Reverend Ainsworth. From backgammon to backwood assaults, episode 5 of Gentleman Jack takes us through it! You might want to grab a drink as you join us for this recap of “Let’s Have Another Look at Your Past Perfect”.
Break open that gorgeous bottle of gin they said.. Drink it in honor of our Patron Saint of Thirst they said.. WELL WE DID! And welp, this is probably our most turnt #HistoricalNightcap yet #93percent. In this adjunct episode of #GentlemanJackCrack lots of gay screaming occurs as we delve into all of the angst currently engulfing our Ann(e)s. We discuss Anne Lister playing footsie with another gal in York, Ann Walker’s “diagnosis” from Dr. Belcombe, the grubbles that were still happening, and regretfully, that grubby little wretch Ainsworth and all the trouble he’s caused.
We’re halfway through the season guys! Can you believe it? In this midway point episode from #GentlemanJackCrack we discuss the sapphic angst beginning to surface between our ladies and interrupt their peaceful grubbles. Ann Walker’s sleeves are the largest they’ve ever been, Anne gets dirty with the men again, and our Patron Saint of Thirst gets another letter. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY LETTERS?? We also get a cameo from Mariana Lawton and her brother (spoiler: it’s PETTY) in this recap of Gentleman Jack episode 4 “Most Women are Dull and Stupid”.

Jaunty and tipsy, we dive into the latest #HistoricalNightcap where we awkwardly announce our Patreon and celebrate Anne finally getting “near queer”, but more importantly, the revelation that Ann Walker’s divine thirstiness had Anne so shook, she thought the gal “man keen”. In this adjunct installment of #GentlemanJackCrack, during the first half we add in a new segment: ‘Script Breakdowns with Sally’ where we go over important notes & deleted scenes found in the posted episode scripts.
In the second half it’s all diary entries, with talk of Anne’s ridiculous contradictions, her constant incurring of crosses, and of course grubbling. In this first episode of Gentleman Jack Crack, we get into the series debut entitled “I Was Just Passing” both written and directed by Sally Wainwright. We go scene by scene to breakdown the introductions to this wonderful cast of characters, while mixing in some history tidbits here and there. We totally didn’t expect for our episode to be this long, but we so enjoy musing about this show, and welp.
